I’ve heard the phrase “a learning moment” often over these last several years. I wonder if the “learning” ever happens in some cases though.
For instance, when neighbors erupt into a fight, diplomats in the area will attempt to resolve the conflict. When that fails fisticuffs might ensue. And if that gets too bloody, the guy with the biggest fist steps in and breaks it up. We all of course hope the big fist guy takes his fist and goes back home when all is said and done.
So, that’s how things work for a while until two things happen. First, the big fist guy suddenly marries a pacifist and has to tone down his response to conflict. Second, a bully moves into town. So now when a fight occurs our usual final word guy has become another negotiator. The bully steps into that vacuum, kicks everyone’s ass and takes over.
America married a negotiator when they needed a leader. Mr Putin saw the vacuum created by the hot air “red-line” US Presidential BULLSHIT machine, and stepped into the role of world leader vacated by our fearless community organizer.
Three cheers for second place Mr president. What’s next? Will you finalize the devaluation of the dollar thus ending it’s run as the world standard? Now there’s a legacy for you, sir.
How did this happen? It happened because we had a learning moment before this president got a second chance when he told the bully Putin that he’d have more sway after re-election. We were given that brief glimpse of the real man and instead of learning, we blinked and voted for him again. Now the bully, having met the negotiator and finding him wanting, has eaten the negotiator’s lunch enough times to bare the emperor naked.
We have taken off on a new course of diplomacy that has us negotiating our very existence into mediocrity. WE ARE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. WTF, OVER?
Learning moments? Yes, but who’s learning?
Wake up. Revolt with your vote.
